A journey from the Highlands to Monferrato

It was May 2010, when a new project was born in Mombaruzzo. Two businesses met: the Berta family and Diageo Italia. The idea was born: Oltre il Vallo, a premium aged grappa, aged in single malt Scotch whisky barrels. The project was the union of two cultures: the Berta family's passion for craftsmanship and the mastery of the finest Scottish tradition, represented by a global company like Diageo, the world leader in premium spirits. Two very different cultures, united by a passion for distilling.

The name Beyond the Wall recalls how no one has ever managed to cross Hadrian's ancient fortifications, the wall that marked the northernmost border of the Roman Empire in Britain for much of the period of Roman rule over these lands. A fortification that divided the island in two. No one has ever managed to go beyond this boundary, until today, when the Highlands and Monferrato symbolically unite in this aged spirit. The casks, hand-selected, come from those distant lands, from Scotland's oldest and most prestigious distilleries: Lagavulin, Caol Ila, and Mortlach, important names that have shaped and continue to shape the history of the finest Scotch whisky.
